Eyelet embroidery is sturdier than it looks, but a few habits keep the edges crisp. Always start with the care label sewn into your piece — it takes priority over any general advice.
Washing
Turn the piece inside out and close any buttons or zips. Wash on a gentle cycle with similar colours, and avoid bleach, which can yellow white embroidery. A mesh wash bag protects scalloped edges from catching.
Drying
Reshape the scallops with your fingers while the piece is damp, then dry flat or on a line out of strong direct sun. Avoid high heat in a tumble dryer.
Pressing
Press on the reverse while slightly damp, with a towel underneath the embroidered area so the pattern keeps its relief.
Storing
Fold tops and skirts with tissue at the embroidered edge, or hang them on padded hangers. Keep detachable collars flat in a drawer.
